A good cobbler address in the southern Alps (06, 05, 04, 83, etc...).
Artisanal quality for your hiking boots and climbing shoes
A hike in the mountains suddenly cut short: the Vibram sole of my fifteen-year-old Lowa Tibet hiking boots comes off along the entire length… Forced to hop down the rocks on one foot for two hours…!
Glue or resole?
After some discussion, calls, and texts, the simplest and cheapest option – gluing – turns out to be short-lived, even unrealistic. The issue lies in the midsole: the foam breaks down over the years and mileage.
The only option left is to find a good cobbler who really knows hiking gear…
La Carlonerie
A warm welcome, easy communication, competitive pricing, and respected deadlines. Sylvie, the "shoemaker", did a like-for-like replacement with a very high-quality and professional result, as shown in the photos.
The workshop, specialized in mountain and climbing footwear, is located in Castellane, between Digne, Draguignan, and Grasse, upstream of the legendary Verdon Gorges, a summer base camp for many European climbers. La Carlonerie is in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, close to the Var, the Alpes-Maritimes, and even the Hautes-Alpes. You can drop off your shoes in person, send them by post, or use the drop-off points, mainly in mountain stores in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Repair rather than replace?
Resoling is a cost-effective solution, as the price is about 30% of a new pair. Plus, you get to keep shoes already molded to your feet.
It’s also an ecological and sustainable choice, avoiding waste of still-usable items. This is all the more important in a context of overconsumption and climate change, as highlighted by the international scientific community.
Don’t hesitate to make use of La Carlonerie’s services
